Will there be other opportunities to voice my opinions?

While the public engagement for the vision planning process has ended, there will be several opportunities to share your input moving forward. Once a development proposal has been selected, this project will enter through various phases of environmental review and City Council approval, which will include opportunities for public input on the proposal. Please check this website in the summer of 2024 for updates on public hearings related to environmental review and City Council approval.

What needs to happen before the Armory is redeveloped?

With the release of the Vision Plan, NYCEDC is going to release an RFP to solicit development proposals. NYCEDC will negotiate with interested parties until an agreement is reached on a development program that is financially feasible, operationally viable, and is responsive to the Together for Kingsbridge Vision Plan.

Once an entity has been selected to redevelop the Kingsbridge Armory, their proposal will need to go through an environmental review process, seek approval from the City and State’s historic preservation commissions, and receive City Council approval. The process for receiving City Council approval, known as ULURP, is a seven-month process that will include public hearings with BX Community Board 7, The Bronx Borough Board, the New York City Planning Commission, and finally the City Council. ULRUP is expected to begin by early 2025.

If approved by the City Council, the project will need to secure financing and all appropriate permitting before beginning construction. Once construction is complete and certified by the City, the Kingsbridge Armory will officially be open for business.

How will the vision plan be incorporated into the RFP?

The Together for Kingsbridge Vision Plan will be incorporated into the RFP in the following ways:

  • Parts of the Vision Plan, including Neighborhood Context, Guiding Principles, and Potential Uses, will be summarized into the body of the RFP.
  • A selection criterion will require respondents to clearly demonstrate how their proposal is responsive to the Together for Kingsbridge Vision Plan.
  • The full Together for Kingsbridge Vision Plan will be attached to the RFP.
